Dresdner Kleinwort Anti-Doping Pilot Project (Part 1)
von Dresdner Kleinwort, am 03.07.2008
1. Aims
- Dresdner Kleinwort’s corporate ethic principles shall also apply to sponsorship. The drive for clean and credible sport is part of our corporate social responsibility. With Dresdner Kleinwort combining its resources with those of its partners in the world of sport to find substantial solutions, it should be possible to give a new impetus to the fight against doping. This will lead to increased public acceptance of high competition sport and the athletes´performance.
- Dresdner Kleinwort wants not just to benefit from the positive values of elite sports, but also wants to contribute to a sustainable development of sport. Part of this engagement, especially now, is to implement measures to
ensure a fair and clean sport. - For this reason, Dresdner Kleinwort, together with the NADA, has developed an anti-doping pilot project which is
an integral part of Dresdner Kleinwort’s sponsorship of the triathlon team. - In addition to its own commitment as sponsor, Dresdner Kleinwort has insisted that rigorous procedures are
included in the testing system. With this requirement the project will set an example for sport. - German National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA)
The NADA is an independent civil law foundation which has been entrusted with the task of fighting the misuse of drugs in sport in Germany. The fight against doping is based - in addition to prevention – on a system of testing including out-of-competition testing (targeted testing with no advance notice).
Responsibility for carrying out the competition tests lies with the relevant sports organisations or the organisers
of major sports events.
To achieve its task, the NADA relies, in addition to financing through sports organisations and government funding, on the support of industry. - Deutsche Triathlon Union – German Triathlon Association (DTU)
The DTU represents the interests of triathlon athletes in the Federal Republic of Germany. It has established an
Anti-Doping Charter (ADO), recurring to the athlete’s right to take part in a doping-free contest. To achieve this
aim the DTU works closely with the NADA. - For the DTU the agreement with Dresdner Kleinwort is a way of strengthening the power of both the association and the sponsor in the joint fight against doping. This co-operation result in new possibilities: a combination of
sanctions imposed by the association and by the sponsor. At the same time, the sponsor is helping, with its resources to bring more transparency into the fight against doping. This is helpful both for the triathlon sport in general and for the association. - Anti-doping Expert
Moreover, the project has succeeded in recruiting Sylvia Schenk as anti-doping expert. She designed the project’s strategy and substance together with the NADA and the DTU and will provide long-term support to Dresdner Kleinwort in its drive against doping. Ms Schenk, who works as a lawyer, has been an active antidoping proponent for many years and has established an international and national reputation. Dresdner Kleinwort is very pleased to have her by its side as an independent adviser. - Other partners
Dresdner Kleinwort is open to co-operation with other sponsors and/or other sports, because combating doping can only be dealt with by joint forces thus benefiting from synergies.
