„Ironman Hawaii is not comparable with Ironman races in Europe. This year it was extremely hard – a fast race with extremely high temperatures. Under this circumstances I can’t complain about the 13th place, but after the 8th place last year I would have liked to improve the result from 2008. I would have liked to have a better day after my 27th anniversary. I had a bad bike race because of cramps - never had that before. Then I tried my best but at kilometer 14 on the running course, my muscles didn't work any more. Now I am going to review the whole season in order to perform much better than this last year.

“Until km 140 it was a good race. I felt good and even was in the lead for a few kilometers. Then my legs didn’t work anymore. I was just empty. At km 14 on the running course I went back to an aid station to pick up something to drink. But it didn’t get better and I had to give up.”more
