Records for the eight-time Ironman winner Marino Vanhoenacker

Marino Vanhoenacker was the star again at Ironman Austria. The Belgian athlete had to deal with high expectations and overfulfilled them. His fifth victory in a row at Ironman Austria was not a big surprise for his fans. But then he got closer and closer to the 13-year-old Ironman World Record of his compatriot Luc Van Lierde. In the end only 98 seconds were left to beat this record in a race of 7:52:05 hours.

„This is my race. It fits perfectly to me“, Vanhoenacker laughed. “I absolutely wanted to...more

Remarkable Ironman results for Commerzbank athletes

(04.07.2010)

One victory, a 2nd and a 4th place as well as a Hawaii qualification – these are the remarkable results of four Commerzbank athletes this Ironman Sunday. Especially Marino Vanhoenacker performed in an impressive way: The serial winner of Ironman Austria could pocket his fifth triumph in a row, drawing level with only four other athletes worldwide, who could so far accomplish this feat. With a sixth victory next year, he could make the world-sensation perfect. In addition to this...more

Marino Vanhoenacker:

Marino Vanhoenacker: "It would be great if the clock stops under eight hours."

(02.07.2010)

Marino and Ironman Austria - both belong together. The Belgian said today: "Last year I almost finished under eight hours. Almost... It would be great if the clock stops under eight hours on Sunday. The phantastic fans in Klagenfurt would deserve such a show. You know, arriving here always makes me smile. Every time I love to see the lake again." And Hawaii? "In my opinion this race here has a lot of advantages compared to Hawaii. There's a wonderful landscape, the atmosphere is phantastic with thousands of fans around. In Hawaii, you often feel very lonely on the course. But Hawaii is still the most important race for us. So far I already had two top 10 results in Kona. So this year I'm only interested in finishing in front."

100 days left until Hawaii - Jan and Markus will fight for their tickets this weekend

(01.07.2010)

The Countdown to Hawaii shows exactly 100 days today. For Timo and Marino this is not important yet because they are concentrating on defending their titles in Frankfurt and Klagenfurt this weekend. Jan and Markus still have to earn the tickets to the World Championship. Jan said yesterday: "Of course I would like to start in Hawaii again this year. Most athletes need several years of Hawaii experience until they are able to have a really good result. Although I didn't perform very well last year - I finished the race and have several more points on my account of experience now." Markus tried to solve a stomach problem that he had in the last Ironman races. Now he wants to...more

Marino Vanhoenacker can go down in history by winning his fifth title in a row at Ironman Austria

Marino Vanhoenacker can go down in history by winning his fifth title in a row at Ironman Austria

(30.06.2010)

For Marino Vanhoenacker the Austrian city Klagenfurt is like a second home. No wonder as the Belgian is the star at Ironman Austria with four victories in a row so far. On July 4th he may be the first athlete to win this race for the fifth consecutive time. There are only four athletes in the world who have won five Ironman races one after the other: Mark Allen, Chris McCormack, Cameron Brown and Marcel Zamora. But the congenial Commerzbank athlete is not so much interested in records. He just wants to...more
